Description
I'm Jean! I'm a visual artist majoring in Visual Arts. My first love is black and white photography. I appreciate its timeless appearance and the emotional depth that can be captured within the frame. I aspire to travel the world, takes photos, and write stories from beaches. In the meantime I want to use different art mediums to bring attention to different internal and external issues that affect my community and I.
The subject matter and concept for this project was up to us to choose/establish but it had to explore the ideas of persuasion, media, and rights in the 21st century by focusing on the ways in which expectations and the establishment are questioned, conceptually and visually, through artwork featuring détournement and appropriation. French for "rerouting" or "hijacking," in an elementary sense, détournement is a method of propaganda, a method which reveals the wearing out and loss of importance of certain ideals as when (often corporate) slogans and logos are turned against their advertisers or the political status quo.
