Description

My name is Carly, and I live in Bernardsville, NJ. My hobbies are blogging, baking/cooking, listening to music, organizing, reading, spreading positivity, writing, etc. Although my major is screenwriting, I am intrigued to understand more about psychology. To be quite honest, I am not your typical student. I have been through many trials and tribulations. For the first 10 years of my life, I was in the hospital for approximately 700 overnights. I guess you can say that I did not have a “normal” childhood. But we all define normal in different ways. My past experiences have allowed me to analyze and view different situations from all angles. Some individuals have told me that I am very intuitive, and I have an old soul. Again, this ties back into the obstacles that I have faced emotionally and physically. These situations have shaped me into the person I am today. I hope to make a positive impact on this world through my life story.
This essay addresses imperfect parenting and the points made in Tillie Olsen’s story, “I Stand Here Ironing” and Theodore Roethke’s poem “My Papa’s Waltz” that speak to the topic. In this assignment, I was expected to present how these texts are connected. The theme is imperfect parenting and throughout this essay, emotional bankruptcy, unhealthy attachments, and the seeking of emotional support are discussed.
