Title
A Visual Narrative On Our Brave New Covid World

Description
As a former management consultant in the hospitality industry, I’ve transitioned into design because I enjoy solving problems in an innovative manner. I look at every design project as a challenge and I enjoy both the conceptual and formal demands visual problem solving. When I am not designing, I can be found on my motorcycle, perhaps flying small airplanes or walking along quiet city streets seeking inspiration for a current project. I firmly believe that inspiration can come from anywhere and anyone, one just has to be receptive and open to when it arrives.
For this project in my Digital Artmaking class taught by Professor McManus, each student was challenged to create a narrative-based work of art using the media and technique of their choice. The project was very open-ended and I decided to use the COVID pandemic (and all its twists and turns) as the subject matter for this stop-motion animation – a technique I had always wanted to experiment with. To execute my vision for this animation, I had to be quite inventive as I did not have access to actors and film sets…so I decided to use Lego figures and built my own sets, complete with digitally made backdrops (that were printed and hung as “backgrounds”) and I even made my own camera dolly out of Legos so my phone could take moving shots. The end result is a 3-minute animation complete with captions and a soundtrack.
