Title
The Kitchen Method: Cellular Respiration and Fermentation
Creator
Elizabeth Smith
Description
I am a returning adult student majoring in environmental science to pursue a future degree in plant science. My background is in the culinary arts, as I had worked as a private chef until the pandemic motivated me to focus on my passion for nature and forest conservation. The goal of this project is to help students understand the detailed molecular processes of cellular respiration and fermentation through a relatable activity, helping to connect science to real world applications. Other than being in the kitchen, I enjoy hiking with my dogs, foraging, snowboarding, and gardening. Upon completion of my degree, I aspire to work in a field that focuses on the protection of natural resources.
This project consists of a cooking video that highlights the processes of cellular respiration and fermentation. Yeast cells in bread baking are utilized as an example.
