Description
My name is Lorean Hofer. I am a student in the Honors College at RVCC majoring in Business Administration. I am eventually looking to transfer to a four-year university and pursue a career in accounting post-graduation. While my career choice may be more numerical, I have always had a love for the exploration and freedom language arts has allowed me during my schooling. I am passionate about absorbing information and learning about experiences other than my own to expand my worldview, so reading the texts by James Baldwin and Gloria Anzaldua advocating for their native tongues to be recognized as independent languages opened my eyes and led to me writing this essay in support of their cause.
6-page argumentative essay supporting the recognition of Black English and Chicano Spanish as not simply dialects, but independent languages with separate histories, usages, and context from their root languages.
