Description

My name is Stevie, I am a sophomore at RVCC and will be graduating this Spring. I grew up in Hunterdon County and was homeschooled K-12, RVCC was my first time in an educational institution. During the pandemic, I found solace in geography and learning about other cultures as a reminder that I was not alone. This has translated into a fascination with anthropology and reinforced a love of linguistics that I have had since I was young. I hope to continue my education and achieve a graduate degree in Linguistics, with a focus on second language cognition, bilingualism, and philosophy of language. Conducting fieldwork is also a dream of mine.
This project and ANTH 203 was instrumental in helping me understand and begin to appreciate the richness of indigenous cultures in North American, which are regularly reduced, erased, and condensed into harmful stereotypes. This course also allowed me to study the Unami-dialect of Lenape, which was absolutely amazing.
