Description

I attended Rutgers University over 20 years ago and received my BA in Art History. I have created art my entire life, but 10 years ago I decided to really develop my skills and pursue it seriously, becoming a self-taught fine artist. Towards the end of 2021, I decided to go back to school to learn graphic design, a skill that could not only fulfill me creatively, but also offer opportunities for a career as a creative. I registered at RVCC for the Spring 2022 semester. I started Visual Design 1 with little to no knowledge about graphic design, or the technology involved. This project was my first project for my first graphic design class, which makes the honor of a nomination even more special to me.
For this project, I was tasked with conceiving of and then designing a complete visual identity for a fictitious, yet plausible company/business based on the name and character traits of a singular, mythological figure. I chose the Roman goddess “Minerva,” who, among other things, was the goddess of protection and strength. I decided on “Minerva Security” as my company and designed the logo by creating a stylized letter "M" that also doubles as an owl - a symbol commonly linked with the goddess. After the logo was created, I designed the rest of the visual identity which includes: a double-sided business card, a double-sided envelope, and a functional letterhead. The entire project was created in Adobe Illustrator using only two spot colors.
